At the Republican National Convention in Cleveland this month, Senator Birdwell’s longtime friend and former Texas Governor, Rick Perry, was talking with Colonel Rob Maness (USAF, Ret.) about his efforts to help the wounded outside the Pentagon on September 11, 2001. Knowing Brian’s story, it didn’t take long before Perry picked up the phone to text Brian.
“Brian, I’m with a friend who was at the Pentagon on 9/11. You gotta meet this guy.”
Little did the former governor know that this chance meeting would reconnect two men in a way no one could have imagined. Chronicled throughout the country over the past several weeks—first in People Magazine and the Washington Post—the story is an incredible reminder of God’s grace.
